Fallen Angel
Four Channel Webpage. 2024. HTML, childhood photographs, stickers, paint.
Fallen Angel is a bricolage blog post and profile hosted on Spacehey, an English-language online social network project operated by the German company tibush GmbH, programmed as an homage to the social media platform MySpace during its peak in the mid-2000s. The custom HTML profile features animated images and the music of 2010’s net culture: Blingee anime girls, Nyan Cat, the Lucky Star opening. The blog post features collaged photographs from my childhood, including those of myself, my family, and kids’ drawings, layered through digital manipulation and physical alteration: crayons, Crayola and those provided by Procreate, acrylic paint and paint brushes sourced from online texture hubs, scanned red packets and digitized marker brushes are layered over photographs of mascot stickers. Girls, holding weapons, covered in blood and paint, pieced together through physical and digital media, are the primary subjects. Viewers are invited to scroll through the blog. It’s a love letter and a testament to the consumerist aesthetics, outsider subcultures, and internet forums that characterized my childhood.
