By capturing realities typically ignored within marginalized communities, with the same gravity and sincerity afforded to more traditional art subjects, Xia uses art to shine light onto marginalized communities and apply a critical lens to societal truths. He relies on the human need to understand and connect with other people— the majority of his artworks center around the figure, focused on deconstruction of norms and cultural expectation.
